TORONTO,
CANADA - April 25, 2003 - Following the success of the recent
mini-tour of South Eastern states by roots music pioneers Greg
Quill and Kerryn Tolhurst, Sydney-based MGM Distribution
has released the duo's long awaited reunion CD, so rudely
interrupted, to music retail stores throughout Australia.
The CD, recorded in New York and Toronto, is the first from
songwriters Quill and Tolhurst since the mid-1970s, when their
collaboration yielded the hits "Gypsy Queen" and "Wintersong"
for the seminal folk-rock band Country Radio, and The
Outlaw's Reply, Quill's groundbreaking solo album.
Tolhurst was also a founding member of The Dingoes, and
wrote many of the popular country rock outfit's enduring hits,
including "Way Out West", "The Last Place I Ever Wanna Be"
and "Going Down Again".
The new Quill-Tolhurst material bears all the trademarks of
their past efforts - mature and lyrical story songs, ringing
guitars, distinctive flourishes of dobro, lap steel, mandolin,
and powerful vocals.
Several of the new songs, including "Back This Way", "The
Killing Heart", "Come To Me", "Lost In A Moment" and "The
Boys Of Narrabeen", are getting regular radio airplay across
Australia, particularly on national and regional ABC
stations, and ABC's Internet radio service, dig.
The new material was introduced in March to Australian audiences
at the Port Fairy Folk Festival, The Brunswick Music Festival
in Melbourne, and at concert club and pub dates in Hobart, Sydney
and points in between. It was the first time the two musicians
had performed together in Australia since 1975. Quill and Tolhurst
also performed live on ABC Radio in Hobart and Melbourne, and
were featured in several press stories and radio interviews
across the country.
"The response to these songs was more than we could have hoped
for," says Quill. "And MGM's Sebastian Chase and Mark
Bolton have done a great job getting the CD into record
stores. Given the audience response at our shows, so rudely
interrupted has quickly found its audience."
The album was produced by Tolhurst, a chart-topping songwriter
in the U.S., a sought-after session musician in New York and
Austin, Texas, and a noted producer of prominent roots artists
in America and Australia.
The CD, on Quill's and Tolhurst's So Rude Records label,
is available in all major record stores, and for credit card
purchases at www.quilltolhurst.com.
